A Strategic Partnership for Quantum Industrialization
CEA-Leti has expanded its collaboration with spin-qubit specialist Quobly by granting the company access to the FAMES Pilot Line. This gives Quobly runway to move prototypes into a pilot manufacturing environment and strengthens an existing industrial relationship that includes STMicroelectronics. The goal is clear: move silicon quantum processor designs from research validation to reproducible, wafer-scale production pathways.
Leveraging Proven Silicon Qubit Expertise
Quobly is founded on more than 15 years of CEA-Leti and CNRS research into silicon spin qubits. Its QSOI architecture pairs silicon spin qubits with FD-SOI process technology and follows a documented industrialization route. Notably, teams reported a silicon spin qubit on a 300mm wafer in 2016, a milestone that underpins the firm’s confidence in using mainstream semiconductor tooling and process nodes to scale quantum devices.
Scaling Towards Future Quantum Systems
The partnership focuses on integrating qubit arrays, cryogenic control circuitry, and reproducible process steps to reduce variability as devices scale. Quobly’s near-term product roadmap targets an Alloy Pioneer processor by the end of 2026, intended as a manufacturable, testable device platform. The company’s long-range ambition is to reach one million qubits by 2032, relying on wafer-scale manufacturing, improved control stacking, and ecosystem partners for packaging and testing.
Why This Collaboration Matters for Quantum Computing
Access to the FAMES Pilot Line gives Quobly manufacturing-grade capabilities: 300mm wafer prototyping, FD-SOI process integration, and pilot production workflows that mirror commercial fabs. That shortens the path from lab experiments to repeatable yields, validates silicon as a scalable qubit substrate, and reduces commercialization risk for investors and system developers. For the broader field, the move signals a maturing route to industrial-scale quantum processors built on semiconductor industry practices.
For researchers and investors watching platform bets, the CEA-Leti and Quobly expansion is a practical step toward translating silicon qubit science into industrial reality.
