Japan’s Quantum Leap: TOYO Corporation Expands Access to Advanced Systems
TOYO Corporation has acquired a second IQM quantum computer, adding an IQM Spark to its existing IQM Radiance 20 installation. Both systems are superconducting quantum computers that will be deployed at TOYO’s R&D facility and at AIST’s Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI technology, known as G-QuAT. TOYO says the machines will be brought online in the coming months and made available to a wider user base.
Driving National Ambitions
This move aligns with Japan’s national quantum strategy and its 2030 targets, which include reaching 10 million users and generating ¥50 trillion in economic value from quantum technologies. By placing systems at both TOYO R&D and AIST G-QuAT, the deployments support public-private collaboration and regional access intended by the strategy.
Fostering Innovation and Skill Development
TOYO will provide on-premises shared access for universities, startups, researchers and corporate teams. Use cases will include algorithm validation, component testing, hands-on education and prototype evaluation. “Sharing these systems is about building capacity across industry and academia,” said TOYO’s CEO. The shared access model lowers barriers to experimentation, helps develop talent, and accelerates technology readiness for commercial applications.
IQM’s Growing Global Footprint
IQM Quantum Computers is the technology supplier for both machines. The vendor has gained commercial momentum recently, including a Nasdaq listing and a rising order backlog, positioning it as a notable provider of superconducting systems in Europe and Asia. IQM’s Spark and Radiance 20 deployments in Japan add to its expanding international footprint and validate demand for on-premises quantum infrastructure.

Making advanced systems available beyond a single corporate lab moves Japan toward a collaborative ecosystem where research, startups and industry can test ideas on real hardware.
